ABOUT

Christopher Townsend, better known as Topher, is an independent American rapper, songwriter, author, and entrepreneur from Kilmichael, Mississippi. He graduated from Montgomery County High School in 2009 as valedictorian of his class. He attended Mississippi State University before enlisting into the military in 2011. Topher spent six years in the United States Air Force, where he was a cryptologic language analyst. While stationed at Fort Gordon, he graduated from Georgia Military College with an Associates of Applied Sciences for Computer Information Systems. Topher has since moved back to Mississippi in hopes to redefine what it means to be from the Sip’ and put an end to the brain drain.

ARTISTRY

Topher is an independent artist who has never signed a deal with a major label or received a major co-sign. He has blazed his own path through talent, transparency, and truth. His music has accumulated over 100 million streams across audio streaming platforms from non-paid, organic reach. Topher began writing music at the early age of 10 and was self-publishing songs by age 16. Following his father’s footsteps, Topher was a natural at constructing lyrics and entertaining crowds. He’s participated in countless talent shows, showcases, and auditions in hopes of living his dream. It wasn’t until Topher’s biggest fan, his mother, passed from stage four brain cancer in 2020, that he found his voice and really started to gain some traction. Now he’s a household name in Christian and conservative hip-hop.

ADVERSITY

Topher is no stranger to adverse situations and difficult challenges. His family lived on a limited income due to his mother being a single parent receiving disability checks for the majority of his childhood. His home was plagued with depression, alcoholism, and domestic violence that was passed off as normal activity. He struggled with a speech impediment that had him in speech therapy up to the sixth grade. Topher believes that God tied up his words to slow down his thoughts. He believes it balances out his ADHD since it prevents him from acting on impulse as often as one should. He’s been self-employed since the age of 29.

Topher has built a massive online presence through the years and has achieved the status of mega-influencer and/or celebrity.
